A ‘strong female character’

drshebloggo:

DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN

  • a character who is physically strong
  • a character who is mentally strong
  • a character who is emotionally strong

ABSOLUTELY MEANS

  • a character who makes her own choices, even if they’re mistakes
  • a character whose point of view is explored at least briefly
  • a character who is the hero of her own story whether she knows it or not

And that’s just a strong character, really.

i.e. strong in the literary/media analysis sense. because WHEN WE’RE LOOKING AT CHARACTERS, WE CARE ABOUT THEIR COMPLEXITY , FLAWS, AND EMOTIONAL LIVES, NOT THEIR BICEPS.

OMG! Look at all that storage space for candles!

Funny.   You thought candles, I thought sewing and embroidery supplies.
LOL.

Oh, the varied useless objects I could store!

I get a lot of people asking me if Community’s any good, what it’s about, etc. I had no other choice. I’m sorry, Carlin. It’s 5 AM.

  • plot twist: your otp wakes up together tangled in the sheets (that haven't been washed for a while wow somebody should get on that) after a long night of not being able to sleep due to snoring and drooling and some lower back pain and general anxiety or a shift in the weather or because of acid reflux/indigestion/too much caffeine. they yawn and they have morning breath, bedhead, and they really have to pee. they do this in the bathroom together while brushing their teeth and one of them accidentally spits toothpaste on the other one while they're sharing the sink and, depending on what they had for dinner last night, they fart. (more than once.) they smell like body odor and, depending on how much sex they had last night, sweat. they've got pillow wrinkles on their cheeks and they love each other anyway.

I really enjoy this

Not to mention that health has to do with a LOT more than what you put in your body. But this graphic is excellent!

i wrote a paper as a senior in high school about this and when tracking the unhealthy relationship symptoms i found this out too. fucking a.

THIS is a legitimate reason to think Twilight is problematic. Not “oooh, but it’s girly literature cause the vampires sparkle and all the teen girls are into Edward”. As funny as some of the sparkly vampires jokes are - and they really sometimes are - Twilight’s very unique take on vampires is the least of the series’ problems, yet this criticism gets heard a lot more than the criticism of people who have noticed that something isn’t quite right in the relationship between Edward and Bella.

10 HONEST THOUGHTS ON BEING LOVED BY A SKINNY BOY

"the fact that “love your body” rhetoric shifts the responsibility for body acceptance over to the individual, and away from communities, institutions, and power, is also problematic. individuals who do not love their bodies, who find their bodies difficult to love, are seen as being part of the problem. the underlying assumption is that if we all loved our bodies just as they are, our fat-shaming, beauty-policing culture would be different. if we don’t love our bodies, we are, in effect, perpetuating normative (read: impossible) beauty standards. if we don’t love our individual bodies, we are at fault for collectively continuing the oppressive and misogynistic culture. if you don’t love your body, you’re not trying hard enough to love it. in this framework, your body is still the paramount focus, and one way or another, you’re failing. it’s too close to the usual body-shaming, self-policing crap, albeit with a few quasi-feminist twists, for comfort."

I may have reblogged this already but whatevs. This is why I totally failed with my “Life to to short to spend it hating your body” poster messaging. Live and learn and fail harder.
